History:
November 23, 2008: Chico Pinheiro Tribute Concert, Brasil Fest 2008
Inspired by her experiences at Brasil Camp 2008 in Northern California, flute player Louisa West headed up the 1st Annual Brasil Fest 2008 as a Tribute Concert to Brazilian guitarist/composer Chico Pinheiro, whom she had met as a teaching artist at Brasil Camp that summer. Louisa invited 15 of San Diego's hottest musicians to join her; some were also Brasil Camp participants, and all were jazz musicians who shared an interest in Chico Pinheiro's music and a passion for Brazilian Jazz. Louisa and jazz vocalist Allison Adams Tucker worked together to spread the word to Brazilian Jazz lovers of Encinitas and surrounding communities, and the result was a successful event at the Encinitas Library in San Diego's North County. Check out photos and artists lineup from the 2008 performance on this site.
November 22, 2009: Brasil Jazz Fest 2009:
Louisa and Allison teamed up again to bring back this opportunity to celebrate Brazilian music and the spirit of Brazil with the community. The festival was officially renamed Brasil Jazz Festa to encompass varying Brazilian composers and styles from traditional to contemporary. 2009 Artists included: Louisa West, Jimmy Patton, Grant Clarkson, Enrique Platas, Allison Adams Tucker, Danny Green, Evona Wascinski, Mark Lamson, Andy Villas-Boas, Justin Grinnell, and Ruben Mello.
